SMG Selects Mazzone Hospitality to manage catering and culinary services at the Capital Center

Albany, N.Y. – SMG, the firm selected to manage the new Capital Center, today announced an agreement with Mazzone Hospitality to provide catering and culinary services for the state-of-the-art facility set to open next to the Times Union Center in late 2016.

Under the agreement, Mazzone Hospitality will provide all culinary services for the new convention center, including catering and concessions. Additionally, Mazzone Hospitality will provide guidance and direction on the design of a state-of-the-art kitchen facility and will serve as an additional marketing and sales arm for the new center.

The agreement between SMG and Mazzone Hospitality will run through the end of 2020.

“A first rate convention center requires an exceptional culinary program and Mazzone Hospitality has an undisputed reputation for excellence in the Capital Region,” said Gregg Caren, Executive Vice President for SMG’s Convention & Exhibition Center Division. “Mazzone Hospitality’s ability to cater a wide variety of functions at different price levels offers tremendous flexibility for organizations interested in holding events at the Capital Center. This partnership adds significantly to the anticipated success of the new facility.”

“We are excited to be involved in such an outstanding project for downtown Albany and the Capital Region,” said Angelo Mazzone, Owner of Mazzone Hospitality. “Our versatility in catering a diverse array of events combined with our commitment to quality food and local ingredients make this a perfect match.”

“SMG’s selection of Mazzone Hospitality, a premier local caterer, makes an important statement regarding their commitment to quality service, maximizing the potential of the Capital Center, and the importance of investing in the Capital Region through the use of local businesses,” said Gavin Donohue, Board Chair of the Albany Convention Center Authority.

The announcement from SMG comes one year after Mazzone Hospitality was selected as the preferred caterer at the Empire State Plaza. Under this contract, Mazzone Hospitality provides all catering services at the Empire State Plaza convention center and meeting rooms; The Egg; Corning Tower; and the concourse cafeteria.

Located in downtown Albany on Eagle Street, the Capital Center will be an 82,000 square foot meeting and conference center that will connect to the Empire State Plaza and the Times Union Center. The new venue will serve as a new catalyst for growth in business tourism in the greater Albany region.
